Kathmandu, November 9. More than 5,000 refugees have fled to Uganda after violence erupted in a refugee camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC).

The Congolese government in the southern district of Kisoro announced that a large number of refugees may flee the country in the next weeks.

The refugee camps in the eastern Congo have poor infrastructure for proper shelter. The camps lack hygienic environment, drinkable water. Even the medicine supply is weak. These difficulties stoke fights between the families living inside the camps.

According to the official statement, “the majority of the refugees  are the elderly, children and women and others who are not physically okay and cannot walk easily.” They are unable to compete with other refugees for resources. As a result, they had no choice but to go to Uganda in search of refuge.
