Medical equipment shortage hits USA; Hospitals pleading for donations
Kathmandu, November 14. Because of disruptions in the global supply chain, there is a shortage of orthopedic equipment in the United States. Hospitals across the country are forced to ask for community donations of gently used crutches, canes, and walkers.
Media reports suggest that hospitals in Texas, Utah, and South Carolina are most affected due to the shortage.
An official statement issued by Beaufort Memorial Hospital in South Carolina reads, “We’re hopeful that there are plenty of used crutches gathering dust in closets that can be put to good use for our patients.”
The shortage of orthopedic equipment might have arisen due to the global shortage of raw aluminum. In the past few weeks, the industries of automobile, electronics, and drinking cans have also reported that they are getting an inadequate supply of aluminum.
