Tonga Volcano triggers Tsunami waves in Pacific; Japan orders immediate evacuation from coastal areas

Kathmandu, January 16. Following a volcanic eruption in Tonga, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued a tsunami warning on Saturday night and urged the people of the Pacific coast to immediately move away from seashores.

The agency announced that some areas of Pacific coastal areas and Amami Island were hit by water waves of up to 1.2-meter high.

The agency also warns of 3-meter high Tsunami waves in the country’s southwestern islands.
