We are working to restore Melamchi supply by Baisakh: Water Minister

Kathmandu, January 30. Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation Umakanta Chaudhary on Sunday announced that a new work plan has been devised to complete the Melamchi water supply project by Baisakh (mid-april).

During a media briefing at the Ministry, Chaudhary confirmed that the Chinese water company “Sino Hydro” is working on supplying water to Kathmandu within a three-month time frame.

“12 excavators and 24 tippers are working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to clear the debris left behind by the big monsoon flood that hit the area on June 15 last year.” Chaudhary noted.

Chaudhary further stated that till the project is completed, Kathmandu will receive 1.7 million litres of water daily from Melamchi.
