Narayanhiti to restore and display “royal cars” used by former monarchs
Kathmandu, February 3. During an inspection visit to Narayanhiti Palace Museum on Thursday, Tourism minister Prem Bahadur Ale instructed the caretaker committee to restore the vehicles used by the former monarch and put them on display for the visitors.
He also instructed the museum development committee to immediately initiate works to repair all the damaged properties inside the palace premise.
Minister Ale told reporters that Narayanhiti is an historic palace which has an important role in attracting domestic and international tourists. “The museum’s beauty should not be compromised.”
Ale further explained that he can manage additional budget if the committee has no adequate funds for the repair work.
Earlier last month, Ale had ordered the committee to immediately halt the construction of the “Batas group restaurant” on the museum grounds. He also ordered a cancellation to the previously assigned “garden constructing” tender to the Batas group.
During Thursday’s visit to the palace, Minister Ale opined that the garden of the centuries old museum must be rebuilt in its original form. He also instructed the committee to restore the vehicles used by the former monarch and put them on display for the visitors.
Meanwhile, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority is jointly working with Nepal Police to take action against the persons and businesses involved in illegal construction of structures inside the palace.
