US special forces conduct “overnight operation” in Syria

Kathmandu, February 3. In the wee hours of Thursday, the US security forces conducted an operation in the Syrian city of Idlib near the Turkish border,

The three-hour operation began when a military helicopter dropped a team of special forces in a target two storey building. The building was suspected to have occupied with jihadist groups. The later part of the operation involved aerial attack by warplanes in the rebel-held area. 

Rami Abdel Rahman, the Chief at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, confirmed that a total of 13 people were killed. “Among the 13 killed were six children and three mothers,” Rahman told reporters.

According to media reports, Thursday’s operation was the largest operation since the 2019 raid that killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The Pentagon has also described the operation as “successful”.
