Impeachment motion registered against CJ Rana, UML terms it as a conspiracy

Kathmandu, February 13: An impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana has been registered at federal parliament secretariat.

Ruling parties’ lawmakers registered the impeachment motion at the parliament secretariat, Singha Durbar at 10:00am today. In the proposal, they have accused CJ Rana of being incompetent.

Secretariat spokesperson Dr Rojnath Pande informed that Nepali Congress lawmaker Dr Pushpa Bhushal, CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Dev Prasad Gurung and CPN (Unified Socialist) lawmaker Jiban Ram Shrestha initiated the proposal which is backed by 95 lawmakers including Nepali Congress lawmaker Dr Minendra Rijal.

The main opposition CPN (UML) has termed the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice as a conspiratorial step.

A meeting of the party’s secretariat held this evening at the residence of Chairman KP Sharma Oli concluded that the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR is an attack on the court and democracy.

UML general secretary Shankar Pokharel said the party has decided to challenge the move by taking it seriously. He also stated that the recent step was a conspiracy to destabilise the relations between the ruling and opposition parties.

He further revealed that today’s meeting has decided to hold the parliamentary party meeting of the CPN (UML) on Monday, which would take important decisions.
