As police clear protests, Canada’s parliament cancels session
Kathmandu, February 18. Police have started to clear the truckers’ protest in Ottawa. As the protests have reached a third week, Canadian lawmakers took a decision of halting the parliamentary session for Friday.
Government House leader Mark Holland told AFP in a statement that the The House of Commons, the Canadian parliament’s lower chamber, has “agreed to cancel today’s sitting”.
House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota has said that due to “exceptional circumstances” in the streets outside the parliament building, they have decided to cancel the session.
The police have started to arrest protestors as a process to put an end to demonstrations. The police have tweeted and said that some protestors have been surrendering and requested for the protestors to remain peaceful.
The truckers protest started in January 28 and has become one of the worst crises since prime minister Trudeau came into power.
