European Union agrees for sanctions against Russia

Kathmandu, February 23. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Tuesday has warned Russia of sanctions if they continue into invading Ukraine.

In a statement, she revealed that European Union(EU) has given political consent to the sanction package, that includes forbidden trade transactions in the region. It also has sanctions against 351 members of the Russian State Duma (lower house of the country’s Federal Assembly), who were the same members to vote for recognizing the independent regions in Ukraine.

Josep Borrell, EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy has said that EU will target 27 individuals and entities having connection to undermining Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

The Russia-Germany Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project also has been halted.

Japan also approves sanctions against Russia

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced sanctions against Russia and the two breakaway regions on Wednesday. He has said that his government will ban new issuance and distribution of Russian government bonds in Japan.

He further said that trade with those regions will be banned along with freezing of assets and suspension of visas linking with Ukrainian rebel regions.

He condemned Russia’s move and has urged Russia to return to a diplomatic measure of resolving the issue.
