Yoon Suk-yeol elected South Korea’s president

Kathmandu, March 11. Conservative South Korean opposition candidate Yoon Suk-yeol has won the presidential elections in South Korea on Thursday.
Yoon is from the People Power Party. He won against the ruling Democratic Party’s Lee Jae-myung, by 48.6 percent votes.
Yoon said, “I would pay attention to people’s livelihoods, provide warm welfare services to the needy, and make utmost efforts so that our country serves as a proud, responsible member of the international community and the free world”. He said that he will be keeping national unity as his priority.
Japan PM, South Korea president-elect agree to improve ties
Japan PM Fumio Kishida and South Korea’s president-elect Yoon Suk Yeol have interacted through telephone on Friday.
They have agreed to improve bilateral relations after relations were strained by wartime disputes.
Japanese PM Kishida said to reporters, that relations between the two countries are “indispensable in achieving the rules-based international order and ensuring peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.”
The telephone call lasted for fifteen minutes.
Japanese officials have welcomed the win of Yoon. Kishida and Yoon have agreed to take a strong stance against North Korea and its nuclear missile threats.
Yoon is set to take office in May and will serve a five-year term.
