Instagram to be banned in Russia

Kathmandu, March 13. Russia is set to ban Instagram starting from Monday. The decision came after Facebook allowed posts that called for the death of Russian president Vladimir Putin.

It will cut 80 million people in Russia off from one another and from the world. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram expressed his dissatisfaction through a tweet. He said that it was a wrong step.

Russian Communication Agency has said that messages have been spreading through Instagram and Facebook that promote violence against Russians. A spokesperson from Meta said that the company had made temporary allowances for some forms of political expressions.

Moscow has planned to ban Instagram starting March 14, Monday. It has also taken steps to block access to Facebook and Twitter.

However, the ban will not extend to WhatsApp.
