Kathmandu, March 15. UN Chief Antonio Guterres has said on Monday that the Russia-Ukraine war is posing difficulties for poor countries.

He said, “Russia and Ukraine represent more than half of the world’s supply of sunflower oil and about 30 percent of the world’s wheat. Grain prices have already exceeded those at the start of the Arab Spring and the food riots of 2007-2008.”

Prices of fuel, fertilizers and grains have skyrocketed, affecting developing countries around the world.

He further said that the war is planting seeds for political instability around the world.
He has pledged $40m from the UN’s emergency fund. The funds will be used to supply food, water, and medicine into Ukraine.
