Russia departs from Council of Europe
Kathmandu, March 17. Russia has quit the Council of Europe on Tuesday, following pressures owing to their Ukrainian invasion.
Russia took the decision, preempting the the pan-European rights body’s plan to expel Russia.
However, the Russian foreign ministry has revealed, it had informed to Secretary General Marija Pejcinovic Buric regarding their decision.
After “Ruexit”, Russia will no longer be a member of the Council of Europe. Then, citizens from Russia will not be able to file cases at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), as the state will no longer be a signatory to European Convention on Human Rights.
After Greece’s temporary exit in the 1960s, this is the second state that has left the Council of Europe.
