Kathmandu, March 18. US President Joe Biden and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are set to talk over Russia-Ukraine war. The White House is extremely concerned regarding Beijing’s closeness with Russia and that they have been considering to provide weapons to Russia in the war.
The White House said that Biden and Xi will speak on the phone at 13:00GMT on Friday.
Jen Psaki, White House Secretary said, “This is an opportunity to assess where President Xi stands.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday said Biden would make clear to Xi “that China will bear responsibility for any actions it takes to support Russia’s aggression, and we will not hesitate to impose costs.”
US-China may have hit a new low as Beijing has maintained its distance since the Russian invasion. Previously, Biden has criticized China for military provocations in Taiwan and human rights abuses of the minorities.
However, Xi and Biden have kept their leader-to-leader dialogue open. Friday’s phone call will be the fourth exchange between the leaders since Biden became president.
