Kathmandu, March 20. The Taliban are opening high schools in Afghanistan on March 22. They will be allowing girls to attend school.
After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan since mid-August last year, there was high uncertainty on whether girls will be able to attend schools or not.
The Human Rights Watch(HRW) tweeted, “Please, let it happen. But if it does, let’s not breathe a huge sigh of relief and congratulate the Taliban for slightly retreating on just one of their many violations of the rights of women and girls”
Majority of schools are closed in Afghanistan. Furthermore, the Taliban has banned women from certain jobs and denied access to some healthcare facilities. According to reports, girls and women facing violence have no escape route. They only can flee if their abuser is escorting them.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the decision of Taliban to allow girls and boys to school. He added that all doors must be opened for boys and girls to get education and reach their full potential.
Many states in the international community refused to recognize Taliban as women and girls rights were their matter of concern.
