Kathmandu, March 23. Taliban has announced that they will not allow girls to school beyond grade 6. A Taliban official confirmed the news on Wednesday.
While an earlier statement from the education ministry urged “all students” to go to schools, the unexpected decision is surely going to face criticism from the international community.
In contrast, most private universities and schools in Kabul have been operating without any interruption.
However, the latest decision was taken because residents in the rural area is reluctant to send their daughters to schools. Some brothers disown their brothers if found that they are sending their daughters to school, according to Waheedullah Hashmi, external relations and donor representative.
Hashmi added that the Taliban leadership is yet to decide on how and when to allow girls into school.
