Singha Durbar master plan soon: Minister Jhankri

Kathmandu, March 25: Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhankri has said the Singha Durbar master plan would be proceeded with soon after its endorsement. The central administrative complex of the country should not be left unmanaged for long, she reasoned.

“Homework has been made to move forward the project as soon as possible. The master plan will include involvement and ownership of all,” she said at a discussion at the Ministry on Friday.

There is a need to take ahead an integrated development plan to develop Singha Durbar as a utility corridor and to ease the entry of general public to the administrative complex, Minister Jhankri added. The master plan would be strengthened more by forming a taskforce comprising Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, the ministries of urban development, and of water supply, Nepal Telecom (NTC), Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), according to her.

Similarly, Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, Dr Ramesh Prasad Singh, said the central administrative complex should be further managed so as to accomplish strong security system inside.

Deputy Inspector General of APF Raju Aryal, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Nath Bastola, and Major General of Nepal Army Nirmal Kumar Thapa univocally viewed that the master plan should manage security and ease the entry of general public to Singha Durbar.

Furthermore, Chief Executive Officer at NEA, Kulman Ghising, informed that efforts were on to set up an electric vehicle charging station and manage road lamps inside Singha Durbar. Haphazard telecommunications wires would also be managed, said NTC’s Pratibha Baidya. (RSS)
