Half of Shanghai in lockdown to tackle Covid outbreak

Kathmandu, March 28. Millions of people are forced into their homes in Shanghai, as the eastern part of the city entered a lockdown on Monday.

Due to the covid outbreak in the city, authorities announced a two-phase lockdown and conduct mass testing. The move, which was announced on Sunday caused residents rush to the grocery stores.

In addition, the city opted for localized lockdowns to keep the economy running. Furthermore, the lockdown will last till Friday as cases in Shanghai reached a new high. The city reported 3,500 new cases on Monday.

Citizens are left frustrated with the decision, with elderly people complaining of not knowing how to order groceries and other supplies online. However, the authorities watched on nervously as cases of Omicron surged in HongKong before it entered  mainland China.
