Government starts distributing “Melamchi water” in Kathmandu valley

Kathmandu, April 24. The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited has begun distributing “Melamchi river” from Sunday.

The distribution was inaugurated by Minister for Water Supply, Umakant Chaudhary who turned on the valve at the water supply office in Baneshwor.

Earlier in January, Minister Chaudhary had announced that the Chinese water company “Sino Hydro” was working on supplying water to Kathmandu within a three-month time frame. The work has been completed within the time frame and now the Kathmandu valley has started receiving 1.7 million liters of water daily from Melamchi.

At present, KUKL is distributing water from two of its branches, Mahankal Chaur and New Baneshwor. The water office is planning to supply 50 million liters of water every day in three districts of the valley.
