Dhiraj Pratap Singh has been appointed new IGP of Nepal Police. However, AIG Pokhrel has filed a writ petition at Supreme Court against the decision

Kathmandu, May 2. The Government of Nepal appointed Dhiraj Pratap Singh as the new inspector general of Nepal Police on Sunday. The decision was made by the meeting of Council of Ministers held on the same day.

Singh will be the 29th IGP (Inspector General of Police). He will be the successor to Shailesh Thapa Kshetri, who retired after serving thirty years at Nepal Police. He took up the post from Monday.

According to the Police Rules, the government can appoint the police chief based on merit and work performance. Further, along with Singh, Bishwaraj Pokhrel, Sahakul Bahadur Thapa and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk were also competing for the post.

AIG of Police Bishwo Raj Pokharel files writ at Supreme Court

Additional Inspector General(AIG) of Nepal Police Bishwo Raj Pokharel filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Monday. He filed the petition against the Nepal Government’s decision of appointing Dhiraj Pratap Singh as the new inspector general of Nepal Police.

Further, Pokhrel has demanded an interim order saying that Singh was appointed violating the seniority level. Singh was the youngest amongst the competing candidates.

The hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on Wednesday.
