Election Commission asks for clarification from Sthapit within 24 hours

Kathmandu, May 2. The Election Commission has asked for clarification from Keshav Sthapit, a mayoral candidate for Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Sthapit, a mayor candidate from opposition party CPN-UML made an offensive comment to a lady at a public event in Kathmandu recently. Commission’s spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Paudel said Sthapit is supposed to furnish his clarification within 24 hours.

Sthapit was questioned about the #MeToo allegations leveled against him, to which he yelled at the questioner, saying she had a nice face but a bad ‘thutuno’. He responded so at an event on April 28.

Moreover, the commission has also sought for explanations from 45 organizations that called against Sthapit’s statement. The commission has elaborated that their statement was against the election’s code of conduct.
