106 rape cases reported in Jhapa in last 10 months; 86 convicts arrested

Kathmandu, June 1. In the last ten months, Nepal Police arrested 86 people convicted in 106 rape cases in Jhapa.

The District Police Office in Jhapa notified reporters that a total of 72 complaints of rape attempts were registered in 10 months. Similarly, 19 incidents of child sexual abuse were also reported in the district.

56 of the 86 convicts were arrested on rape attempt charges, while 17 were accused of child sexual abuse.

Basanta Pathak, who is the official spokesperson at the Office, said that reports of child sexual abuse are on the rise. The convicts were mostly recognized as members of the victim’s family, relatives, teachers, and neighbors.
