Kathmandu, June 7. The government of Cuba on Monday accused the United States of excluding Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua from the Ninth Summit of the Americas in an undemocratic manner.
Releasing an official statement, the Cuban government said that Washington, abusing its privilege of being the host, imposed hostile policies on some Caribbean countries.
“Cuba appreciates and respects the worthy, courageous and legitimate position of numerous governments… our region demands cooperation, not exclusion; solidarity, not meanness; respect, not arrogance; sovereignty and self-determination, not subordination,” the statement said.
Mexican President refused to attend the regional summit
On Monday, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that he will not be attending the summit due to the exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
Obrador called a press meeting where he said, “I am not going to the summit because not all American countries are invited and I believe the need to change the policy that has been in place for centuries: The exclusion, the desire to dominate without any reason, the disrespect of countries’ sovereignty (and) the independence of each country.”
