Halesi Tuwachung announces mobilization strategy to end “child marriage”

Kathmandu, July 8. The municipal corporation of Khotang’s Halesi Tuwachun has launched a new program to end child marriage in its area. 

Mayor Bimala Rai unvieled the “girls mobilization program” under which groups of girl students will be formed, who shall be trained, to conduct awareness programs in their society.

Rai said, “Although it is illegal to marry a child under the age of 20, child marriages continue to be common for religious, social, and other reasons.”

She further explained “Child marriage is a punishable offense, and girls themselves should be aware to stop child marriage.”

According to the municipal corporation, the program has been launched in Chyasmitar Secondary School. For the program, the government has supplied a fund of Rs 55,000 to the school.
