Kathmandu, August 19. Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is waiting for Green Card to settle down in the United States.
According to a report from a Sri Lankan newspaper, Daily Mirror, Rajapaksa’s lawyers in the US started the process for his Green Card application last month. Further, as Rajapaksa’s wife is already a US citizen, he was eligible to apply for a Green Card.
Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka last month amidst protests demanding his resignation. The 73-year-old former president is currently residing in a hotel in Bangkok and will return to Sri Lanka on August 25. His movements have been restricted in Bangkok due to security reasons, which is why he is returning. The Thai government made clear to Rajapaksa to not engage in any political activity during his stay.
