Kathmandu, August 21. Many areas in Southwestern China have been facing droughts, the driest the region witnessed in decades.

The industrial metropolis of Chongqing lost half its vegetable crop in heat as high as 41 degrees Celsius. While local authorities are advised to use all available water resources, weather forecast has revealed for high temperature and no rain for three more days.

Further, Sichuan is the most affected region. Factories have been shut down and offices and malls have been asked to turn off air conditioners, as water levels in reservoirs have reduced to half.

Moreover, the shutdown poses as a challenge to President Xi Jinping as he is planning to award himself a third term in October or November.
