Police file terrorism charges against Pakistan’s Imran Khan
Kathmandu, August 22. Former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan is filed with terrorism charges on Monday. The Pakistani police put up the charges post his speech on Saturday.
Khan claimed a close aide was tortured post arrest and he vowed to sue police officers and a female judge. Further, the ousted prime minister has a “protective bail” issued from a court for the next three days. The bail will not allow the police to arrest him on the charges.
Khan came into power in 2018, promising to end family rule in Pakistan. But the oppositions have accused him of economic mismanagement. His no-confidence vote and oust created a political turmoil which required the Supreme Court to step in.
Moreover, the former prime minister has been carrying out rallies trying to pressure the government. He further accused the Pakistani military, Washington and Sharif’s government of plotting against him, without any proof.
Khan would face several years in jail for the charges under Pakistan’s 1997 anti-terrorism law.
