India votes against Russia in UN for the first time
Kathmandu, August 26. India voted against Russia at the procedural voting session on Wednesday at the United Nations. This is the first time India stood in favor of Ukraine.
In earlier voting sessions, India used to abstain from voting. The UN Security Council session invited Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelennskyy through video conference. While 13 voted in favor and one against, China abstained from the vote.
Further, Zelenskyy then called against the actions of Russia. He said, “If Moscow is not stopped now, then all these Russian murderers will inevitably end up in other countries. It is on the territory of Ukraine that the world’s future will be decided. Our independence is your security.”
Moreover, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres also expressed his concern over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
The UN Security Council meeting was held to take in occasion of 31st anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. The meeting took into account the status of six month Russia-Ukraine conflict.
