Argentina Vice-President escapes death as man points gun at her, saved by officers

Kathmandu, September 2. Vice-President of Argentina Cristina Fernández narrowly escaped death as a man pointed a gun outside her home on Thursday.

According to officials, the gunman was quickly overpowered by security officers. The vice-president did not face any injury.

Further, President Alberto Fernández revealed the pistol did not discharge when the man tried to fire. He further said, it is “the most serious incident since we recovered democracy.”

An official at the Argentinian ministry, who spoke in the condition of anonymity, said the gunman has been identified as Fernando André Sabag Montiel, a 35-year-old street vendor who has lived in Argentina since 1998. The man did not have any criminal records.

While authorities have been investigating into the matter, a national holiday was declared on Friday.
