Voters should be provided adequate information on election: NIC
Kathmandu, September 2. The National Information Commission (NIC) has suggested that the Election Commission should create an environment conducive so as to make the November 20 parliamentary and provincial elections fair, transparent and accountable. Voters should also be provided adequate information about the polls, it said.
Voters should be informed about candidacy nomination and related documents submitted by candidates for the elections, and candidates should make public the election expenditures post polls as per the laws, according to NIC. It was stressed at the NIC’s 37th meeting that took place on September 1 under the Chairmanship of its Chief Information Commissioner Mahendra Man Gurung.
Similarly, the meeting decided to send the draft of the regulations related to whistleblowers’ protection to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for an approval, said the NIC’s Information Commissioner and Spokesperson Kamala Oli.
It was also decided to implement the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on mutual cooperation struck between the information commissions of Nepal and Bangladesh and propose the MoU on mutual cooperation between the information commissions of Nepal, India and Sri Lanka. (RSS)
