Indra Jatra celebrated with great pomp and joy at Basantapur

Kathmandu, September 9. The festival of the rain god, Indra known as Indra Jatra was celebrated with great pomp and joy in Basantapur, Kathmandu.

A pole known as “lingo” is made stand straight up at Hanuman Dhoka on the day of Bhadra Shukla Duwadashi. The Indra Jatra then commences for eight days, including various dances, pujas and chariot processions.

As a part of the tradition of Indra Jatra, President Bhandari, Prime Minister Deuba and other ministers witness the procession of Lord Ganesh, Lord Bhairav and Goddess Kumari today. They witnessed the jatra through the Gaddi Baithak.
