Kathmandu, September 13. An activist in Thailand was sentenced two years in jail for being dressed up like the queen for an event. A Thailand court gave the verdict on Monday.

The activist, named Jatuporn “New” Saeoueng wore a pink silk dress for a mock fashion show in 2020. She was accompanied by another person holding an umbrella for her. The fashion show was a protest against the fashion show by Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana.

Further, Queen Suthida dresses in silk attires for public occassions and a person with umbrella accompanies her.

Moreover, Jatuporn initially was termed a three year jail term for defaming the monarch. But it was reduced to two years with a fine of 1,000 baht ($27.50). Jatuporn said there was no intention of mocking anyone and dressed in a traditional version of the Thai dress.

While Jatuporn aims to go to Supreme Court if her pleas are not heard, human rights groups are also on her side.
