Kathmandu, December 2. Nigerian Education Minister Adamu Adamu on Wednesday announced that the country has approved “National Language Policy” to revise teachings in primary schools.
The policy instructs all primary schools to teach their students in their local languages.
“English is the official language of Nigeria, and it is used as the language of learning and teaching in all educational institutions. But when taught in their mother tongues, Adamu remarked, “pupils learn considerably better,” Adamu said.
More than 600 local languages are spoken in Nigeria. It is challenging to create materials and textbooks in several languages. As a result, the nation has not yet stated exactly when the new system will go into action.
