Tesla delivers first batch of “Electric Semi Trucks” to PepsiCo
Tesla Semi can carry a load weighing up to 37,195 kg for up to 805 km on a single charge.
Kathmandu, December 2. Elon Musk owned private company Tesla Inc. on Thursday delivered its first batch of electric semi trucks to its first customer, PepsiCo.
During the launching event organized at the Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada, CEO Musk drove three of the “Tesla Semis” in front of the audience. The event was live streamed on Twitter.
Tesla Semi has four independent motors that let it accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 20 seconds. It can carry a load weighing up to 37,195 kg for up to 805 km on a single charge.
According to media reports, a single unit of Tesla semi truck would be priced above $150,000 USD.
The Tesla Semi’s prototype was displayed for the first time in 2017. The company had announced that production would start in 2019. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and a global component scarcity caused the production to be delayed.
Musk has now announced that his company is planning to speed up the production process and would deliver 50,000 units by the end of 2024.
