CIB finds 12 people including two players connected with the “match fixing” case in T20 Cricket tournament
Kathmandu, February 15. The Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has submitted a probe report to the Kathmandu District Attorney, recommending criminal prosecution against 12 people linked to a T20 cricket league match-fixing case.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and the Indian business Seven3 Sports organized a franchise-club T20 tournament from December 24 to January 11. The matches were held inside the cricket ground facility of Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu.
Superintendent of Police Sanjaya Singh Thapa informed reporters that two players were identified as the main suspects in the match-fixing arrangement. Ten additional individuals, including those working in managerial positions at various clubs, were discovered to have illicit connections to the alleged players.
“If found guilty, they will face charges under the 2077 B.S. National Sports Development Act. The act calls for up to three years in prison and a fine of up to Rs 50,000,” Thapa added.
