5.2 magnitude earthquake jolts Sudurpaschim; Epicentre at Bichchhya in Bajura district
Kathmandu, February 22. An earthquake hit sudurpaschhim province of Nepal on Saturday. The 5.2 magnitude earthquake had an epicenter at Bichchhya of Himali Rural Municipality in Bajura district.
The first wave was felt at 1:46 pm (Nepali Standard Time), the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre reported.
The quake was clearly felt across areas of Bajhang and Achham of Sudurpaschim province.
The people are in fear of more temblors like the last earthquake of 5.9 magnitude which struck the district on January 24. Although no human casualties occurred due to the latest earthquake in the district so far, aftershocks continue and the general public has been urged to adopt precaution
Media reports claim that the families affected by the previous earthquake have not yet received the relief or rehabilitation service from the government.
Today’s earthquake was an aftershock of the Gorkha earthquake. More than 600 aftershocks measuring over 4 on the Richter Scale were recorded so far in the country after the Gorkha earthquake that occurred in April 2015.

On April 25, 2015, a massive 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal, collapsing thousands of houses, and causing landslides and avalanches in the Himalayas Mountains.
Nearly 9,000 people were killed, and over 22,000 were injured. In the seismically active area, it was the worst earthquake in 81 years.
