Kathmandu, February 26. The Department of Archaeology announced on Sunday that it has started the excavation-based study of Nuwakot’s Swayambhu Chaitya Vihar.
Swayambhu Chaitya Vihar, located in the Bidur Municipality of the Nuwakot district, is thought to have been built 1400 years ago during the Lichchavi era.
“Following an excavation, site exploration and study, we will reconstruct the Vihar in the archaeological form,” Department’s spokesperson Ram Bahadur Kunwar said.
Kunwar also confirmed that two archaeology specialists from the United Kingdom’s Durham University are currently working on the excavation site.
“The team is collecting artifacts and other details about the underground structures. Our archaeologists are using the latest equipment for the excavation of artifacts,” Kunwar said.
