CAAN orders Shree Airlines to stop flying until engine safety examination
Kathmandu, March 10. On Thursday, The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAN) instructed the domestic airliner “Shree Airlines” to stop all of its flights until the authority conducts an engine safety examination.
“In the past, a technical error was found during the engine inspection of Shree Airlines aircrafts. Now, we have decided to allow the airliner to fly only after our technical experts examine the engines of the flights,” CAN spokesperson Jagannath Niraula told reporters.
Niraula further explained, “Previously, the Shree Airlines technicians were performing routine engine inspections prior to each takeoff. CAAN has now announced that its CAAN technical staff will undertake all routine inspections.”
Thursday’s Incident: Fire on flight
On Thursday, a flight of Shree Airlines that took off from Kathmandu suffered a technical error in the sky. After the engine showed signs of fire, the flight was immediately brought back to Kathmandu.
The incident prompted the authority to issue the instructions to halt all flights of the airliner. The authority also suspended the aircraft.
