Shakya and Jha will not have the privilege to vote in today’s elections, due to their lack of membership in both the federal and provincial assemblies.

Kathmandu, March 17. The voting for the election of the Vice President, commenced at 10 am in the Lhotse Hall of the Federal Parliament Building located in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.
A total of 882 voters have cast their vote till 3 pm today.332 voters are members of the Federal Parliament (the House of Representatives and the National Assembly). The remaining 550 voters are members of the Provincial Assembly.
The candidates are Ashtalakshmi Shakya, Mamata Jha, and Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav.
Ashtalakshmi Shakya is the candidate of the Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) led by KP Oli. Mamata Jha is the candidate of the Janamat Party, led by CK Raut. Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav is the candidate of the Janata Samajwadi Party. Yadav is also a member of the House of Representatives.
