Kathmandu, March 28. Physical Infrastructure minister Narayankaji Shrestha announced on Monday that the government is preparing to print and issue driving licenses within a week of receiving an application.

“Currently, individuals have to wait almost a year to receive their license due to a lack of printing capacity. Only 4,000 licenses are currently being printed daily, despite a demand for 6,000 licenses per day,” Shrestha said while speaking at a news conference.

He further said that the issue would be resolved within eight months as the government is preparing to purchase a mass printer and tender bidding for this has already been announced.

“A German company has been selected through international bidding to supply 1.2 million smart cards queued for printing,” Shrestha added.
