Kathmandu, April 2. Pakistan’s Bureau of Statistics on Saturday revealed that the country witnessed a consumer price inflation of 35.4 percent in March.

“In March 2023, the country witnessed a 35.4 percent increase in inflation compared to the same month the previous year, marking the highest Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase since July 1965,” Muhammad Mazhar, an officer at the Bureau told reporters.

He added, “The inflation rate in March 2022 was 12.7 percent. However, this year it was 35.4 percent more than the previous inflation.”

Experts predict that the inflation trend will persist for the next two months before subsiding from June due to the high base effect. Additionally, the increased demand for food items during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was also a contributing factor.
