Kathmandu, April 23. The Millennium Challenge Account Nepal Development Committee has published a preliminary list of settlements that will be affected by the expansion of a transmission line from Lapsephedi in Kathmandu to Hetauda and Tanahun via Ratamate in Nuwakot.

Senior officer of the committee, Hari Krishna Uprety, confirmed that the list includes 50 settlements in 18 wards of Shivapuri, Panchakanya, Likhu, and Tarakeswar rural municipalities, as well as Belkotgadhi of Nuwakot.

The Executive Director of MCA Nepal, Khadga Bahadur Bista, said that a survey would be conducted to design and deliver compensation to the identified communities. “However, local level governments and affected residents have expressed their discontent alleging MCA Nepal for showing apathy to the affected communities in course of the substation construction and transmission line expansion,” he said.

He further continued, ‘The compensation determination committee, which is mandated to make decisions on compensation to be provided in the expansion of the transmission line, has been boycotted by the local level governments.’
