Fake Bhutanese Refugees Case: Suspect arrested during targeted operation in Mandikatar
Kathmandu, June 26. A special team of Nepal Police on Monday arrested a person involved in the Fake Bhutanese Refugees Case.
According to Inspector Sitaram Rijal of the District Police Office in Kathmandu, the suspect, identified as Ashish Budhathoki, was apprehended during a targeted operation conducted in the Mandikatar area. “The arrest was made based on gathered evidence and by tracing financial transactions linked to the scam network,” Rijal said.
Earlier in May, the District Government Attorney’s Office had filed charges against 30 individuals in connection with the Fake Bhutanese refugees case. The list included high profile political personalities, including former ministers Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Bal Krishna Khand, former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, and former parliamentarian Dr. Indrajit Rai.
During the course of the investigation, the police had arrested 18 individuals. The arrested individuals were presented before the Kathmandu district court. Following the court proceedings, Laxmi Maharjan and Tanka Gurung were granted bail with bail amounts of up to 10 lakh rupees. The remaining 16 individuals were ordered to be held in custody for further investigation.
