Kathmandu, July 21: The Supreme Court (SC) has ruled out the conditions for putting government secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut into custody for investigation into his alleged involvement in the Lalita Niwas land procurement scandal.

While speaking at the verdict announcement, a division bench of Justices Prakash Dhungana and Nahakul Subedi on Friday directed the police to release Raut on general date and continue the investigation against the charges while prohibiting him from leaving the country until the investigation is completed.

He further added, “Raut’s recent arrest was based on charges of forging government signatures and documents during the registration of public land under individuals’ names.”

The court also noted that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had previously decided on 5 February 2020 not to initiate a corruption case against Raut. Media reports suggest that Raut filed a writ of habeas corpus in the court after being taken into custody on the aforementioned charges.
