Electricity Disruption in Mugu Affects 26,000 Residents and Services
Mugu, July 23: People in Mugu district have been enduring two weeks of darkness due to a disruption in the power supply. The Gamgadh micro hydropower project suffered damage from floods on July 12, leaving 26,000 members of 5,000 households, government offices, and other organizations in Chhayanath Rara municipality without electricity.
A total of 87 settlements, including Gamgadhi, the district headquarters of Mugu, have been affected by the power outage, significantly impacting the daily lives of the local residents.
The lack of electricity has posed challenges in service delivery for government offices, banks, and financial institutions in the area, as stated by Prakash Bham, the Assistant Manager of Rastriya Banijya Bank in Mugu.
Efforts to clear the intake of the power house from silts and mud brought by the flood have been made repeatedly but remained unsuccessful, according to Tshering Lama, a technician from the project.
