BPKIHS Establishes 30-Bed Dengue Ward Amidst Dengue Outbreak
Inaruwa, July 24: The BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan has taken additional measures to address the rising cases of dengue in the region. A 30-bed dengue ward was established and began operating on Sunday to specifically cater to dengue patients. Currently, Dharan sub-metropolis in Sunsari and neighboring areas are grappling with an outbreak of dengue fever.
With the increasing number of dengue cases in Sunsari and its surrounding areas, the existing medical facilities at BPKIHS, including the ‘central emergency’ and the ‘dengue clinic,’ have become inadequate to manage the situation, as expressed by BPKIHS acting vice-chancellor Prof Dr Prahlad Karki.
In the past two days, the 50-bed ‘observation ward’ has been predominantly occupied by dengue patients, with 85 percent of the beds being utilized for this purpose. The hospital’s emergency ward has been receiving an overwhelming number of dengue cases, with an average of 60-75 patients seeking treatment daily.
