Mustang Witnessed 45.75 Percent Increase in Tourist Arrivals
Myagdi, July 24: The number of tourists visiting Mustang has witnessed a significant increase, rising by 45.75 percent in the fiscal year 2079/80 compared to the previous fiscal year 2078/79 BS, according to data from the Area Conservation office, Jomsom, which is part of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).
In the fiscal year 2079/80, a total of 71,707 foreign tourists visited Mustang, as shared by ACAP Jomsom In-charge, Ashok Subedi. This shows a substantial surge in tourist inflow before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The data indicates that 38,896 tourists had entered Mustang in the year 2078/79 BS.Comparatively, the number of tourists visiting Mustang in the FY 2079/80 increased by 32,811, showcasing the region’s growing popularity as a tourist destination. Among the tourists, 59,310 arrived from SAARC member countries, while 6,749 tourists visited from third countries during the fiscal year 2079/80.Moreover, in the FY 2079/80, a total of 3,388 tourists explored Upper Mustang, an area that is semi-prohibited.
The influx of tourists to Mustang has been attributed to favorable weather conditions, improved road access, availability of hotel and lodge facilities, and a minimal number of natural disasters.
