Kathmandu, July 26: The main opposition party, CPN (UML), has disrupted the proceedings of the House of Representatives, demanding the formation of a high-level committee to investigate a recent gold scam.

Chief Whip of the CPN (UML), Padam Giri, called for a parliamentary ruling in the name of the government to initiate an investigation into the recent gold scam. Lawmakers from the CPN (UML) gathered at the ‘rostrum’ and raised slogans, demanding action against gold smugglers.

As a result of the protest, all the agendas scheduled for today’s meeting were removed. Speaker Devraj Ghimire then declared the postponement of the meeting to July 31.

Earlier, amidst the UML lawmakers’ protests, Speaker Ghimire allotted time for Chief Whip Giri to speak about their demands. Giri emphasized the necessity of forming a high-level probe committee to investigate the recent gold scam. He made it clear that they would not allow the House proceedings to continue until their demand is addressed. (RSS)
