FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers: Nepal to Compete Against Laos in October
Kathmandu, July 27: Nepal is set to face Laos in the preliminary phase of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, scheduled to be held from October.
As per the game schedule published by the headquarters of the Asian Football Federation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Nepal will play two matches in the first phase. The first match is slated for October 12, while the second match will take place on October 17.
A total of 48 countries will participate in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, while 24 countries will partake in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. In the first phase, 20 countries will compete for both the World Cup and the AFC Asian Cup qualifications.
The countries contending in this phase include Nepal and Laos, Afghanistan and Mongolia, Maldives and Bangladesh, Singapore and Guam, Yemen and Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Macau, Cambodia and Pakistan, Chinese Taipei and East Timor, Indonesia and Brunei, as well as Hong Kong and Bhutan.
