Global Tiger Day 2023: President Paudel Calls for Sustainable Tiger Conservation
Kathmandu, July 29:President Ramchandra Paudel emphasized the significance of tiger conservation for tourism promotion and economic development in Nepal on the occasion of Global Tiger Day, 2023.
In his message, President Paudel called on concerned authorities, the public, and conservationists to actively participate in the sustainable management of tiger conservation, considering its importance. He expressed gratitude to conservationists, security personnel, locals, media persons, and supporting organizations for their unwavering efforts in tiger conservation, highlighting Nepal’s leading role in global tiger conservation.
President Paudel acknowledged that the development of national parks and wildlife reserves has contributed to creating safe habitats for tigers. However, he stressed the need for special initiatives to introduce alternative livelihood programs, reducing the locals’ dependency on forest resources and mitigating human-wildlife conflicts.
The Global Tiger Day is being observed in Nepal following the declaration by the Global Tiger Summit in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 2010, designating July 29 as the Global Tiger Day each year.
President Paudel expressed satisfaction with Nepal’s significant achievements in tiger conservation, stating that the tiger population has increased by around threefold, as per the commitment made during the Summit. The country proudly presented its accomplishments on the international stage during the second tiger summit held in Vladivostok, Russia.
Furthermore, President Paudel encouraged the conservationists, noting the rise in tiger numbers, and emphasized the importance of continuing conservation efforts by raising awareness about the significance of tigers in human life and implementing measures to reduce human-tiger conflicts.
